Burning too much oil?
« on: April 02, 2010, 12:48:53 am »
A couple of old'ish threads on here already about burning alot of oil but they all seemed to refer also to the white gunk under the filler cap, something I'm not experiencing

My car is a 56plate with just over 58k on the clock with  FVWSH with the last service at 50k, I only got the car in january and have had to put in over 3 litres of oil since then, I travel around 370miles a week, mostly motorways and a bit around town, I always let the car warm up properly but do drive it quite hard.

I'm using around a litre of oil for every 1400miles, this seems very very excessive especially when the castrol edge im putting in cost me £45 a tub. I will have done a full oil change after the next month and a half....

Has anybody else experienced anything as bad as this, or could this be something more serious?

1l per 1000 miles. This is normal.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
