Number plate light reverse cam?
« on: June 30, 2021, 04:54:12 pm »
hi all..

having fitted my android headunit,  im now itching to make full use of it, so im interested in fitting a reverse camera..   i want a camera that doesnt stick out like a sore thumb  :signLOL: and was wondering what you chaps have (boot logo camera not included)    although i would very much like a boot logo one, im pretty sure its way out of budget compared to the £25 one ive seen  :signLOL:

has anyone tried or have this camera? - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383726360020?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item5957df95d4:g:DQkAAOSwLFJfZHVh&amdata=enc%3AAQAGAAACkPYe5NmHp%252B2JMhMi7yxGiTJkPrKr5t53CooMSQt2orsSQuF9OYLb3wphIAOfpJK8RiYcssPi4J78t046D8Txj8SObgKJQWzNtVhjs3Ma6%252FgtSRAIhnMyQV%252FuZgjNPHrOQoI5NPAOvsn0SKxMffb05%252F6%252B5LWB6anPLi%252Fv4SFJZo9WRw98NUo5ZedcOAtPvBiXQLlhcpxa9ktfzahOrlUbdJmwz2QB7WnjWQD8M333im1naYnLpFo%252BT80UcO3BmvFNNZbY4clLGzMuPWFWiCAwgd1TcgvkvIEI1nCK8SwIRiIEH%252Fg44CiYAwm61kO3pTTmoi%252B9QyukHNcYgIJA4JS8vBZbvjFncRsO1mNRnVqHLFjahQq9BW2qM6dp1AwZGM7RqJlZD6nix2J8OIkSdYti%252B3V%252BiVOvb8QaNXaJMHwXXTR6WFxU7%252FejW5vP7GFoD6Pc4rrVppLaOUMs9C8AaVykaNDBmHSdR694uXqHTJ4RC724qRmeRytIC48vx9fdINeHcWctjisxzSVVoDCRPBxHUdAqIStO8jOjR4oDEv9gpRw5NHhYfjMdOZOjAH8h8BHTLPDpWooKQoFml3RAYeDa49sTYcDS1xbzCZ%252Be2Iade4t57wjg7ohfeub1DLDXgnvQyvOr2Jq39blAq2avKnwsxxo5egOPlwBy1znu63ILayigLOsFtzP1pk8IGLtVkwz3sLssCP8zENdgbhzsBScQLJHmOevVphZdT6jJXp%252FYtjnCO61c9G%252BQRWdbOXtuW%252FkWfdfBkTgIFgAFmkkoFL4LybY3qVAo96IEp09nxEThRVbOps8xdg3HE8eWWdA0OTxO2d8qnjoAchizLTO6fn4Arj5y%252FN%252F6ropvBB%252Fb4pQme9no%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2334524

I would be concerned about light output - would it be the same on both sides of the plate - don't think that would fail MOT, but may be a fail visually.
I'm going for something like this mounted between the lights, it will require a hole cutting in the bumper, but it should be discrete:

I'm toying with a front too:

I have one of those number plate light cameras.
I got the non led one, so both lights match.  You use your existing bulb and connector - but I had to buy a used light from a polo as the connector in my golf didn't fit inside the new camera fitting.

I wouldn't recommend it to be honest.  The camera points too far down, so you can only see the ground, and hardly any of the surrounding areas because of the way the camera is angled.

There's a hole in our bumpers between the 2 number plate lights. this fits perfectly and vision is good.

Where did you find that reverse cam mate?

Aliexpress - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33032367610.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.626e4c4d9KPEl2
literally arrived today, 16 days to arrive, hope it works. even comes with its own 20mm hole saw...but it seems that there is a hole ready made

I wouldn't recommend it to be honest.  The camera points too far down, so you can only see the ground, and hardly any of the surrounding areas because of the way the camera is angled.

Yes - that's the problem with the Mk5 plate being so low and I cant think of a place higher up to mount a camera discreetly.

There's a hole in our bumpers between the 2 number plate lights. this fits perfectly and vision is good.

Yep - found that, its 19.6mm in diameter - perfect snug fit for mine - Any problem removing the clip and how was the camera angle there?

this one looks as though its slimline and discreet...    not sure about the big nut and bolt though !   if the nut comes off, i would be looking to use double sided 3m tape to stick it on

That's over double the price of mine!

I am unsure when I will get round to installing mine, got several tasks lined up and this is low on the list - could be weeks or months!
Here's a picture to show the size:
