How is the brake pedal with the silicon hose?  My only concern with using that is it might collapse under heavy vacuum, which is why they use that nasty rigid stuff.  Some fuel line hose would be better in the long term.  Cheap from Halfords.

Interesting you say. I noticed the other day when car was shut off it took a few extra pumps than normal to build enough pressure on the brake pedal that it goes rock solid. Just took it for its first test drive for about 2 months or so, brakes seem fine. I activated abs a few times and felt like it was easier to activate than normal maybe.. but I've been driving the mrs's 69bhp fiat 500 for 2 months so it could just be me used to spongy milk top brakes.. definitely seems safe anyway, will probably get the hose you mention and change it next time the intake is off. Thanks mate!

'69'hp  :grin:  Gotta love the Italians!

What you can also do is trim off the cracked bit of plastic pipe, heat it up with a heat gun and slide it back onto the fitting  :happy2:  Done that a few times in the past and works great.

So back again :doh: turns out the misfire is still there just very minor, the other jobs needed doing and now runs better for it but did not fix the ultimate issue. Last thing now really is injectors! Pudding called it, I just was too tight to believe it :grin:!

Couldn't find anyone to do the work local as I wanted it walnut blasted at the same time. Spoke to R-Tech, they're going to clean the injectors, walnut blasting and then stage 1 tune. They said they've got new and good condition used ones in stock so if worst case scenario they're dead they'll just stick those in. 4 month waiting list though.... ouch!

Still just on Cylinder 1?  If it's a persistent miss on just one cylinder that smoothes out with more revs/load, I can almost guarantee it's a bad squirter  :grin:

Unfortunately they are a service item on all DI engines, not just the GTI.

There really isn't anything else about these engines that can cause a misfire like that.  Plugs and coils are reliable and they're also not known for bad valve seat or guide wear.  The latter causes more of a 'rough' idle in general that isn't stored as a misfire code.  That's just old age and/or wear and tear.

The reason folk are in denial about the injectors is because of A) the cost and fitment faff, and B) not fully appreciating their arduous operating conditions, which inevitably f'cks them up over time  :wink:

Anyway, sling it into R-Tech and let them do their shizz on it  :happy2:
