R8 coils? Wrong part
« on: September 13, 2021, 11:16:52 am »
So I put some “R8” coils in my GTI a while ago and I wasn’t confident in the fit but they worked fine, whilst replacing the rattling turbo I pulled them out for inspection and found a lot of white powdery corrosion, I’ve gone back to my stock coils for the time being but wondered if I was sold the wrong parts, see the pics below

Quite possible. Looking at various places selling them some of them do differ from each other slightly it looks. I've got some being delivered soon so can report back then if still a mystery. Where did you buy them from?

Thanks theses were probably 8mm too short, I was surprised they worked,
I can’t think we’re I got them from but it was via EBay, it would have been a reputable/known retailer

The white stuff is dielectric grease, which also come in red coils bought from Audi.

They are a bit short.  Mine are identical to the black OEM ones, just with a red top.  I got them from AKS Tuning.
