Oil change for manual transmission?
« on: September 29, 2021, 01:21:27 pm »
Hello,

A month ago I purchased a golf VI version 1.4 TSI 122km. My mechanic after driving it said that it would be good to change the oil in the gearbox. I know that it is necessary to change oil in automatic transmission. As for the manual, I once heard that someone changed the oil, but from what I read on the web, it is rather not recommended. But maybe with the TSI engine, such operations should be done, I don't know. I would like to know if anyone has done such operations, or maybe someone can tell me if such operations are actually performed on manual transmissions?

Yes the manual benefits from an oil change as well. Although VW don't specify a change interval for it, being 'filled for life', it is kind of funny don't you think that they fit drain and fill plugs to the gearbox?

The best oils to use are either the VW oil, part number G060726A2, or Redline MTL 75W/90.  If your gearbox is the 02Q code, it holds 2.3 litres, so you need 3 bottles.

I planned to but my drive and street isn't level so would end up filling it to the wrong level and oil is like 90 quid in total so with labour ends up being quite an expensive oil change and could just buy a used and working box for 200/250 so risking it for now. Mine does track days also and still seems to be fine and not heard of any going bang yet... I may get it done another time though when she's stopped throwing my money away on broken bits lol. Can't hurt as long as you trust the chap doing it to use the correct oil and fill it to the correct level.

Nothing will go bang with old/original oil. Fresh oil just helps with the shift quality  :happy2:
