Rear Anti roll bar bushes
« on: September 29, 2021, 10:11:49 am »
Hi,

I have a knocking from the rear. Garage said everything looked fine but it has got worse since then and advice on here says it may be the rear anti roll bar bushes. Can anyone link me to the correct parts? Also can you replace just the bushes or is it worth changing the bar itself? and should i also replace the drop links while i'm at it? again if anyone can advise on parts etc. would be grateful. Thanks

I came across this site other day: https://www.vwspares.co.uk/index.php?osCsid=21de15b28089624c2509861b4e30a8c4

Not used them but read good things initially. They seem to sell the bushes. Could always ring up VW or TPS though. I would probably get new roll bar clamp bolts as well while you're there, they're cheap though.

I've just stuck on a 3 point adjustable rear whiteline anti roll bar, comes with the bushes and new clamps you just need the 4 bolts. Not that expensive either considering and comparing to prices for genuine items I imagine.

Thanks for the info, i have emailed them just to make sure i am ordered the right parts. Forgive me for being an idiot, but are the bushes between the drop link and the anti roll bar, therefore if i just replace the drop links will these come with bushes? or do i need to order 2x drop links and 2x bushes?

So here's my old bits. The anti roll bar is tied to the chassis via 2 clamps that bolt down, in between the anti roll bar and those clamps are the bushes:

The drop links, ties the anti roll bar to the rear suspension (specifically the trailing arm and hub) via a bolt and nut for the lower end of the link and a nut that ties down the upper end of the link. It is one unit, as long as the bolt and nuts are supplied as well its all that's needed:

Don't know much about your issue but just in case you weren't aware you don't need to change the links if taking the anti roll bar off if they're in good condition. It of course cannot hurt to do so if you want to cover all areas at once.

Thanks that's a really helpful explanation. Think i will order bushes and drop links and hope that cures the knocking.

AVS are very good - not used them for a while, but good service and prices - tend to have random stuff on offer

But... I got this Febi kit off Ebay, new brackets, 4 bolts & bushes for £18:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333564723086

TRW drop links come with the bolt or bolts - Sorry, I can't remember what ones & nuts - typically I had already bought bolt and nuts from TPS

Hardest part is getting the bracket over the new bush - if you can it's easiest doing this off the car  - the rest is easy

Edit - looked at the TRW kit, corrected bolt / nuts error

What I do is go onto Lemforder's website, find the parts and cross reference the Lemforder number on ebay.

Lemforder make all the heavy metal and bonded rubber parts for VAG, BMW, Mercedes etc, inc engine mounts, drop links etc.

I recently bought a pair of Lemforder mounts (A third of the VW price) and they were identical, but the VAG branding was ground off

It's easy, just sling your reg plate in and you're presented with pictures of everything available  :happy2:
