Finally got it back...Quick wash & wax
« on: March 28, 2010, 09:16:35 pm »

Posted a while back with my problems....got lots advice, to refresh, 2 months & 1 week after buying it from a local specialist car dealer I had major rattling and no power. The car was returned, diagnosed a loose & jumping timing chain. This was repaired and then no oil pressure.
I dug my heels in and basically rejected the car. I received a call from the managing director offering to repair the car fully at no expense to us, I agreed to take the car back.

I picked it up on Friday, it has had a new timing chain, tensioner and rear cog. New cambelt and water pump, due to the low oil pressure it was also diagnosed a chain had snapped in the oil pump, this has been replaced with a new oil pump.

I have been told to run it for 200 - 330 miles and they will then have it back and if there are any issues they will sort it.
All is sort of ok with the car, it sounds lovely and quiet, it sounds like a GTi again, no rattles when cold or warm. Steady driving is fine, my only problem is when put under heavy accelleration, it starts to stutter and holds back,I had the engine management light come on on Saturday after doing about 60 miles but that has now gone off again. I,m ringing tomorrow to inform them and they will sort it out.

I'm wondering if the DV valve could be causing this.Forgot to say, they have had the timing set up after the timing chain was replaced and apparently it is correct.

Anyway, yabber over, took the picture after a quick polish on Saturday morning, I was like a kid with a new toy...I bloody love this car, just need to get it back to 100% while i can.

Thanks for listening...Daz

Good news Daz, but abit concerned if they had found the oil pump chain snapped? without doing a major engine strip?. :scared:

Keep an eye on it fella, and agree, Red GTi's are stunning when all cleaned up :happy2:

Keeping a close eye on it, like i say, sounds fine and is running fine apart from the holding back & stutter under heavy acceleration.

Could this be related, I'm going to ask them to check the DV when I take it back for a check up next week

It maybe a boost leak from the intercooler pipes, they can be a pain in the ar*e.
