Esso appear to be contradicting themselves on their own website.

Ah well, legalise ass covering exercise. Key phrase is ‘up to’, which is zero for most of the country except the areas specifically mentioned.

I’ll get a tank of it in a week or so and report back. Expectation bias is for crisper response.

Let us know what it's like!  None of my local Essos sell it though

Also interested in the results using this fuel as my local Esso sells this as it’s a 25mile trip for me filling up with v-power.

I use Tesco momentum 99, not had an issue in the 3 years I’ve been using it on various cars.

Same here. Don't see the point in paying extra for v power as on the few times I've used it haven't noticed any extra in performance or mpg.

V-Power is ridiculous money now. £1.54 where I live  :stupid:

The only thing I've found with Momentum is variable quality, and Tesco is always so bloody busy, so I just use V-Power as it's en route to work.  A 5 minute fill up vs 10-15 at Tesco as I also have to go out of my way to get it.

Horses for courses. What ever suits your pocket and convenience.

£1.599 at Esso Park Lane. Could this be a UK record?

Been using the Esso 99 since it came out maybe a couple of months back. Feels better to me than the Shell 99 stuff, and definitely more responsive than the regular fuel. Worth the extra to me as my standard MK5 GTI feels more powerful and get a few extra MPG with it. Tesco 99 is more expensive round my way and supposedly isn't as good as the Esso and Shell.

And the reason it says ethanol free and up to 5% ethanol is because it is ethanol free "except, due to technical supply reasons, in Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, North England and Scotland"

Wacked some E10 in it a couple of weeks back just to try it, and it developed a misfire on cylinder one between 2000-3000rpm. Probably was a coincidence but I was dreading having to replace the injector, as I had read the higher ethanol content can free gunk from the fuel lines to them. Ending up replacing the spark plugs and single coil on cylinder one and thankfully it went away. I've tried the E10 since and it ran fine but prefer the 99 Ron stuff for sure.

Initial impression is that the car runs smoother and pulls better from lower revs. Being a BWA motor, the comp ratio is quite high at @10.3 iirc and I have fairly aggressive settings in the revo stage 1 SPS controller. Since peak torque (and maximum bmep) happens early in the rev range, it makes sense that a more stable and calorifically dense fuel should be beneficial.

Two tankful’s in on the Esso and the mpg is better than ever.  23.5 average on short journeys around town, don’t think I have ever seen more than 20 before for similar school run driving.
