***update*** Dashboard warning lights?

Interesting - before getting replacement just check the voltage on the old battery, should be around 12.5v.

Mine would play dead with a brand new battery, sometimes completely dead, other times it would pop the doors but then not start - acted like a dead battery, it would even loose window memory - disconnecting and reconnecting the battery would usually bring it back to life.

Eventually found it was terminal 15 relay under the steering column gone bad, I have not had any issues since.

Easy to find, but awkward to remove - you can see it, it just doesn't have space to remove it, you need to un-hook the assembly - Edit: you need to remove the panels under the steering wheel and IIRC another panel underneath.

This Golf Wagen vid calls it clamp 15 - Bottom Right 460 relay:

So I couldn't make it before closing time for a new battery, bit I've managed to attach jump leads to it and the car is dead!!!! Nothing, no Interior lights no nothing?
Could that relay cause this?

Quick update....  I tried jumping jer again and she started

so i jump started her around 9:30pm last night and when for a 2min drive and let her idle for 10mins...   ABS, ESP, TPMS are still lit up but i also have the yellow steering wheel to join them now!! 
anyways, she started 1st time in the morning and i drove to work,   battery voltage was 14.3 on my drive in and 13 on idle.

im surprised it held charge overnight and started this morning, and it looks like the battery is being charged,

do Euro's sell them?  and if the battery is charging, why all the lights on the dash? or could it be that a abs sensor is actually out and now a have a relay problem too? 

i suppose i have to find someone with a scanner

You need to check the voltage with engine off - the good news is 14.7v is healthy alternator.

I got mine from TPS IIRC it was the usual VW expensiveness of around £40 -  there is the same relay on the other side of the panel, you could swap them over to see if there is any improvement - but check the voltage first before diving under the dash.

i used the car info page on my android stereo which showed the battery voltage at 12.5v (this was after i jumped her last night and let it idle for 10mins or so...    i switched engine off and it showed a stable 12.5v)

No problem  - That sounds healthy, but try it again first thing in the morning, something may be draining it overnight.

Could it be the android head draining the battery?

Hmmm !!  not sure about the headunit. it seems to power off completely when i take key out of ignition.

but...  ive had the car scanned today and mechanic said its my rear left sensor that comes up with error!..  so i'll take it to him on friday and he will check the condition of the sensor and try to verify if it might be worth changing the wheel bearing too.   ....    i might even change the battery while im at it

Heres a guide to check if your radio is draining:

If it is draining - you can change how it its powered with a jumper in the engine bay fuse box - the only problem is the startup wont be as quick:

might sound silly, but i dont have a multi meter  ..    can i do the same check with a 12v tester?   so stereo off and check for a live on both pins of that fuse?

unsure what a 12v tester is??
if it shows how many volts are flowing between terminals - then yes.

I mean a 12v light tester..   the light comes on if there is a live

If the head is draining the battery it is a very low voltage - you can try, but suspect its too low to illuminate a bulb.
