I had mintex disc n pads on my audi a3 and they was sh*te imo. Was a long time ago tho lol
there is different compunds though, mintex do oem replacements that are only £25, the m1144 are £152, i have used the oem mintex before in a cooper s and thought they were pretty poor but no worse than oem

Yeah they wasn't expensive. Probably rubbish that I bought tbf

I've used Brembo discs and pads, some have been good and others have been garbage. The garbage Brembos came from ECP.
im wondering if you might have got fakes, apparently lots pads can be faked and hard to tell, cant see any other reason for 1 set to be good and another to be scrap, unless th quality control is terrible
I don't know if there's any truth to it but I've read/heard that ECP bought the licencing rights for Brembo and so they can badge up what they want as Brembo?

I have no idea if it's true, I should imagine if there is any truth to it they'd have to meet certain standards. If you plan on buying them from somewhere other than ECP you'll be fine anyway.

Yup.  People get hung up on brand names but Brembo also make cheap crap for the aftermarket, which is worse than OEM stuff.

If people want like for like OEM replacements, I always recommend dealer or ATE brand from ECP.  Both are better than the cheap Brembo tat.

I came to the conclusion years ago that the best standard brake pads always came from the dealer. A number of times I have put in factory pads and been surprised by how good the blend of bite / dust / noise is.

Not because they are ever track pads, or even particularly fast road pads, but because they are brilliant for average road driving. I'm sure I have tried many of the standard offerings (Pagid, Ate, Ferodo, Jurid, Textar) and many of the more performance offerings (Pagid RS series, Ferodo DS, EBC, Project Mu, Carbotech) too.

Ditto. VW's own Clubsport S pads and discs are phenomenal.....and cheaper than the equivalent spec in the aftermarket. The reason I go with ATE from ECP is because that is who makes the calipers and pads for VW, and therefore no nasty surprises when you stomp on the middle pedal, and they cost peanuts.

Too many times I've gone with 'fast road' pads in the past and found there was zero cold bite! Some of them were so bad it felt like the brake servo had been removed.

You can actually look up coefficient of friction charts to get some idea before purchase, but that doesn't always translate into a decent pedal.
