Buckled wheel.
« on: January 13, 2022, 02:07:30 am »
So I started to have a bit of steering wheel judder the other day, took it straight to a garage and they quickly, and for free, determined it to be a buckled wheel...

They showed it to me on the balancer and it was very visibly wobbling . They added some more weights to try and help but I need it straitened.

They're BBS CH-Rs and are satin black.

Will probably get all 4 done so they definitely match and I was think of getting the curb rash sorted anyway.

Anyone got suggestions for a decent alloy wheel refurb in Kent??

Anyone used Lepson's?

I've not used them but Lepsons seem to have an excellent reputation from what I've heard.

I've used Lepsons.  Very happy with refurbs on diamond cut Monza 2s.

Yes I've used them and very happy with the result, a better job than KAP did on another set of wheels but have since kerbed one wheel and put very slight wobble in it so will go back to them.
Would be interested to hear your feedback on the repair though.

Pristine and Lepsons seem to have the best reputation.  I've used Pristine 4 or 5 times over the years and always a flawless finish, but I hear they've gone under now, or were taken over?

Do Lepsons collect?  Wheels are a pain in the arse.  Gotta get a temporary set of wheels whilst they're being done etc etc.  Sometimes wonder if it's just better to buy some new ones

Took all 4 wheels off and carted them over to Lepsons today, to be told the buckled wheel "can be bettered, but will never be true"

So now ive got to bite the bullet and get a new wheel, and maybe have the rest smart repaired in the future.

Thanks for the input, I'll update when ive got my wheels back on!

Pudding I thought they used to do a collection service but not 100% on that, can't see anything about it on their site....

That's annoying.  New wheels from VW are eye watering but I've seen an online VW dismantler selling single wheels.  I think the place is called Stevens. Perhaps get one from them and give it to Lepsons to do with the other 3?

Thanks mate.  I'm trying to drum up some enthusiasm to tackle this job, but I will look into them more when the time comes.  Being a daily and no spare wheels, it's a faff

There must be mobile companies that can come to you, take em' off, 'furb them and stick em' back on?  That's a kind of laziness I enjoy

They're not VW BBS, just regular BBS, still eye wateringly priced though! Having trouble finding somewhere without a 2 week wait on delivery or selling one and not a set of 4.

RS Wheels up here do a swap service, they'll swap your wheels over for a suitable set, when your wheels are ready you just go back and swap. Think they'll come out and do it for you too. Got 4 diamond cut Monza IIs that need doing, unfortunately house stuff keeps taking the money

If you're in that area or close, have you tried Inspraytion. They do wheel refurbs/repairs depending on how bad it is.  I've not used them myself but know others who have and they do some nice work.
Good luck

Cheers chaps, more options to choose from  :happy2:

Yeah tell me about it re: other expenses.  Washing machines breaking and other halves demanding a new couch just suddenly happen when you want to buy something for the car, don't they? :D

You could try this company for the buckled wheel.  Bike specialists but they do car wheels too.  You can send them the wheel.

Thanks but I've ordered a new wheel now, thanks to Brexit it will be a couple weeks at least as it's coming from Germany.
