Finally! OEM uprated small end dogbone bush.
« on: January 22, 2022, 11:46:30 am »
Ordered a new dogbone from AKS and to my surprise, VW have finally ditched the voids  :drinking:

https://www.akstuning.co.uk/shop/home/547-genuine-dog-bone-mount.html

Haven't fitted it yet but hopefully it will finally solve the annoying engine shunting at urban speeds when changing gear, and coming on/off the throttle.

For those not aware, the factory bush on previous versions was voided (in the fore/aft direction - bad idea!) which was good for refinement, but terrible at keeping the engine steady during gear changes.

Shout out to AKS for their continued great service.  Ordered Thursday evening and arrived this morning.  They also let me specify Royal Mail over DPD as I've had problems with them dumping my parcels at other people's houses without my consent, and not leaving a calling card.

Original VW.  It does look like the Vibratechnics one though  :happy2:

For comparison, the top one is Vibratechnics and the other two are the older style OEM bush.  With the newest part number dog bone, VW have basically copied what Vibratechnics did, but not quite as stiff  :happy2:

Which upper mounts do you have Andy? I have the vibra small dog bone / updated bolts / original vwr subframe made by vibra / 034 street engine mounts and still find the engine rocks around too much. Perhaps the subframe bushing is now goosed after @12 years use?!?

As I've said before, if you have the blue VWR version of the Vibratechnics subframe mount, replace it with Vibratechnics own version.

Andy has the V6, so not a like-for-like comparison.  Much smoother engine.

Mine is so ancient, it predates the poly version and is simply a relabelled vibra.

Fitted the new dogbone today and it's made a huge difference.  Much better shifting, especially going down through the gears.  4th to 2nd in particular always was a vague and inconsistent lottery, but it's very precise now. Zero increase in NVH (remarkable given it's a solid bush) and with rushed/clumsy gearshifts, the engine no longer feels like a randy Gibbon jumping around under there.  I'd call that a win  :drinking:

Ah OK. Well I think you will have the same problem I faced today then.  The upper bush's threaded insert parts company with the rubber.  Worst case - you can't remove the bolt, or in my case, it came out OK but I couldn't torque the bolt back up again.  It's probably only tightened to half what it should be.  The threaded part just spins.  I've had 2 of them go the same way.  I'm not sure I can recommend VT any more. Pretty sh1t for a £150+ mount. I will feed it back to AKS Tuning to pass onto VT.
