would there be any gains to installing an upgraded fuel pump to anything under stage 2+    or is it a complete waste,
have seen some claim even on a stage 1 the oem pump struggles with the low to midrange

Yeah, R tech did a stage 1/stage1+ for me recently. So map 4 is effectively a stage 1 with 260bhp and map 5 takes advantage of the VIS internals and makes 273 with about 30 foot pounds more torque. This with a stock downpipe but with the pre cat delete.

If you tell your tuner they should be able to do the same sort of thing, up to you then to decide if the maybe 10-20bhp extra is worth it.

@Clarkj93 - i saw your dyno charts on RTech’s facebook feed and it’s a cracking result. Never mind the bhp as these turbos can’t flow much air but look at the extra area under the torque curve! I also have a stage 1 k03 car with precat delete and a vis pump fitted and even though the pump hasn’t been mapped into the revo software you definitely feel the extra torque and consistency.

@ald1717 - not sure if you have a k03 or k04 car however the hpfp is cam driven and therefore its output ability is rev dependent. Given that the k03 cars spool up earlier in the rev range, it is easy to see how extra fuelling might be beneficial to a tuned car.

I found the following old article helpful - https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=14350.0

Apr I think did a stage 1+ nap which was I think no other mods just a fuel pump. Defo worth it.

yeah you can really feel the fuel pressure struggling below 4000 rpm, so it will probably be worth it if i plan on keeping the car,
forgot to say im k03 oversized intake, 3in downpipe with 200 cel, and s3 intercooler with stage 1 +

@Clarkj93
Interested in what you've done there, mine is 250 on stage 1 there.
Bought the vis pump internals but not got around to going back there yet to get some bits done on the car and go to stage 1+ at same time.
Driving wise is that little extra hp & torque noticeable in day to day driving?

@Lewo I have not driven it yet on map 5, they did it without me asking essentially, my guess is as it was making good numbers for stage 1 they popped in a VIS internals they had knocking around for another customer in to see what kind of numbers they could get. Works for me as when I get bored eventually of the extra power il just go buy the VIS internals and boom extra 30 ft lbs of torque with no new mapping session required.

Going from stock to stage 1 was 77 ft lbs of torque and that feels an enormous difference so I imagine the extra 30 ft lbs (roughly half the amount of gained torque between stock and stage 1) should still feel a noticeable difference.

I've been looking up a few dyno sheets and results since and to be honest it does look like stage1+ is a decent alternative to going stage 2 with an expensive sports cat down pipe as it seems very very similar numbers (I've seen stage 2's produce less than my stage1+ map sometimes) and a fair bit cheaper to do also.

Mine is pre cat delete, creation motorsport intake and miltek cat back, can't imagine the cat back exhausts adds much mind you if anything.

Well it will be good to hear what you make of the stage 5 when you get to use it! :happy2:

wish i had the knowledge if removing the pre cat before spending near £400 on downpipe, that could have gone on a decent catback
