Boot struts
« on: February 11, 2022, 02:26:40 pm »
I'm wanting to change my boot gas struts as they are not lifting the hatchback fully anymore. Plus mine are all rusty on the outer casing.

I've seen a few on ebay and managed to find a seller that is not in China.

Anyone used them off ebay before and if so are they OK or would you recommend getting them from another place?

Euro car parts ones… Anschler….. way too springy, they slam the boot open. Something will snap.

SGS nitro… open fine until 80% then they slow right down, very annoying.

If you find some that work like OEM then please let me know.

I recently had bonnet and boots struts changed - went for genuine parts from TPS. Yes, they were pricey (compared to ECP etc) but I know they will be good for another 10 years so don't have to worry about them

How do you get them from TPS tho? I thought they only deal with garages?

Sorry, should have been more clear.
I got my garage to order them and they fitted them at no cost (I was having other work done at the time)

My boot struts are slowing up too - how much did TPS charge?

TPS selling to public -
It used to be up to the branch to choose if they wanted to do this or not, but a couple of years ago the company put in a nationwide stop on public or walk-in's - it disorganised people taking up too much time at the counter, they just want people to show up to pick up their stuff and go.
Fortunately my local branch were one of the public welcome ones.
Been using them for well over 10 years and have a great relationship with them, they take orders over the phone, they also are kind give me a discount too - even mentioned if its an emergency they would sort me as walk in.

I think it was £55ish when I got one a few years back, from the stealer.

The rears were something around £40 each iirc.

Only one way to find out!  It'll be over the summer when you notice their lifting power the most.  Some of them are over gassed, so watch out for your chin when lifting the tailgate

I fitted a pair of these 3 months or so ago and they've been faultless so far.
