P2600
« on: February 13, 2022, 09:20:33 am »
Got an email for  p2600 "coolant pump control circuit open", I understand this is a secondary electric coolant pump located beside the oil filter at front of engine,, I noted the plug is a little oil from a leak,  I'm going to try blow out the connections with wd40 and air, after that maybe change the pump, can anyone tell me what is the purpose of this pump , I've read it still ok to drive like this ??, I reset the light and it returned immediately, I've been long fighting poor heater performance maybe this is the weak link

Anyone p2600 ????

Can be used to circulate coolant when engine is shut off to stop heat spots.

My old VR6 should have had one but I didn't wire the controller up so didnt bother running it, had no issues on that.

I'm no expert on the cooling system of our TFSIs, but as far as I know it's to stop heat spots on the turbo (which can cause damage overtime), as the secondary pump runs for a bit after the car is turned off.

Normally with turbo cars without such a secondary pump, the advice is to drive it gently for the last 10 minutes before turning it off so the turbo has a chance to cool down naturally. But our engines were designed with this secondary pump in mind, so I'd recommend you actually do get it fixed. Obviously don't drive it if it's overheating or if the coolant level is dropping quickly.

If you listen carefully to the bottom of the engine after turning the engine off (after a drive), you should be able to hear a whining, that's the secondary coolant pump.
