Edition 30 cutting out
« on: February 16, 2022, 02:33:15 pm »
Hello I’m new on here. I have a edition 30 Which I bought @ 124000 miles. It was sweet until I got a air leak which took me ages to figure out where it was ( hairline crack ontop of turbo feed pipe). So far I have got a refurbished ball bearing turbo (good for 370brake) , a TTRS pressure plate clutch kit, runner flap delete kit, 3inch down pipe (yet to be mated to quad exhaust cat back) ITG big cone induction kit, eBay intercooler, basically it’s being groomed for a visit too the Rtech folks. I have 2  issues preventing this trip. 1. It cuts out when slowing down @ junctions or brakeing  aggresively & 2 a P00A fault code over advanced timing. In the future I would like to get a LSD and fuel pump internals. Once that’s done and Venom has been mapped (I named the car  don’t judge me!) it needs the cosmetics sorted; my splitter has a huge chunk missing underneath the car, a crack in the bumper very small but I know it’s there, and I’m going to want a window out paint job. Any advise please don’t hesitate.

maybe the cambelt wasnt set correctly if it was changed, or its got a really bad map on it, maybe worth letting rtech diagnose it if you plan on letting them map it,

I don’t think it’s mapped yet before I had the clutch/Runner flap delete /turbo done I was getting standard 0-60 times!
Also I may found a reason why. I pulled out my MAF sensor and it was caked in oil I swapped it for another and It has been behaving a lot better even the idle sounded smoother

Contaminated/Dead/Dying MAFs is what causes the stalling at junctions/hard braking.  Caked in what kind of oil?  Filter oil = not good. Engine oil = seriously not good.

P000A is slow response on the VVT, not timing related. It could be the N205 valve, or it could be one of the oil control rings in the VVT housing has broken, which is becoming more and more common.

by oil rings do you mean the camshaft plate seals, if so my indi tells me this is the source of my cam chain rattle as it was replaced and was like a new engine for about a week then slowly the rattle came back ,

Thank you sir pudding for responding, I have replaced the MAF and it has practically stopped that behaviour of cutting out. How would I be able to differentiate between filter oil & engine oil? To be fair I need to clean and re-oil my cone filter and Replace the pipe that goes onto my turbo which I believe is spraying engine oil on boost through the metal part that connects the bypass hose onit.

Filter oil is hard to detect on MAFs unless the oiling was excessively applied, but with engine oil, you would see it dripping off the MAF.  That happened to me when an experimental map ran the turbo too hard, which caused a lot of blow-by oil from the cam cover to kick back onto the MAF when closing the throttle after hard boost.

That is unfortunately a downside of locating the MAF too close to the turbo, and VW subsequently moved it over to the battery side on MK6s onwards.....well away from PCV reversion.

I guess I’ll add Maf sensors to the consumables list then. How often do you have to replace them in your experience?

I haven't had that problem since dropping back down to Stage 1 Revo with the factory airbox/filter.   With aftermarket intakes and crazy maps, I was replacing MAFs annually. F'ck that.  The comparatively small jump in performance from Stage 1 to Stage 2+ is not worth that, and other, hassles.
