Picked up 2 tubs of Quantum Silver from the dealer this morning. £51   Jeez that's well cheap. The engine seems to run well on it so it's getting that from now on  :happy2:  I think my turbo is on it's way out judging by the tiny little brass specs in the oil/filter this morning, so no point putting expensive oil in it.

Not feeling the cardboard box though.  Reminds me of those cheap boxes of wine from Sainsburys that are always a faff pulling the nozzle through the hole
“I think my Turbo is on the way out”

Hybrid time Kev!!!

New car time   I'm going to keep it going for as long as possible, for as little as possible   Need 12 months more life from it and then hopefully upgrade to an R or something.  Not sure yet.

Welcome to the cheap side!
Yes the box isn't great, the 20 litre boxes tend to get crushed/torn and sag.
BTW it is exactly the same as the wine box... with at least half a litre of oil trapped in the bag.

Going forward I am going to have to hold onto my current stock of 5 litre oil bottles at the recycle centre.

I did wonder about how much oil stays in the bag!  It's cheap enough to leave it bit behind.  If it was mega oil I'd be cutting the bag out and getting every drop out of it

I bought a 25L container for dumping old oil into, which I take down to the recycling centre when it's full.

Well as my car just ticked over 150,000 its service time.  I’ll probably go with miller 5w40nt again., which has been fine over the last 100,000 miles.

The way I see it is that I service my car myself so even using “expensive” oil, it will still only cost me ~£70 for oil and a filter vs £150+ for a garage to do it.

I use the Mannol stuff. £14 for 5 litres. It goes in, it comes out 12 months later when I’ve done about 3000 miles…
Getting too old for this...
