Passenger wiper catching lower A pillar trim
« on: March 03, 2022, 09:18:11 pm »
A bit of a weird one -
The wiper blades are genuine VW & have been on the Golf for 2 years.
The only time the arms have been off was to get access to top mounts 20 months ago, I marking their position on the screen with sharpie, so it went back correct - that is assuming the arm was correctly positioned when I got the Golf.

Just yesterday, the passenger blade caught the inner trim of the A pillar a couple of times, then several times today, it's not constant, randomly catches with a really loud Ker-thunk!
I was too pre-ocupied to check in day light - just checked in the dark with the phone and I can see rubbage on the trim down in the scuttle where the end of the blade rests.

Only recent change is new wiper stalk to combat mental auto wipers - It appears to be working, but I'm still getting used to the system.
Really confused why this has suddenly become a thing - could this be the lower resting position now started working after stalk replacement and my arm is set too low?

Does yours do the wiper jolt thing when you turn it off? Every few stops, it repositions the park position to even out the wear.  Just wondering if that mechanism has gone haywire or something?

If not that, could just be as simple as repositioning the arm on the spline a bit.

Yes - it was too close to the scuttle - weird how it had not been an issue before, maybe it's all the grot in the corner pushing the trim out:

This link, assuming its a Mk5, suggests you need 10 to 15mm from top of scuttle cover to middle of wiper

There is so much slop in the mechanism it took 3 or 4 goes to get it to sit higher up - its now half a wiper blade higher.
