Airbag light on after swapping seats, HELP
« on: March 20, 2022, 08:00:24 am »
Recently I had my mk5 ed30 GTI (2007) heated seats swapped for mk5 (2006) full leather GTI heated seats, connectors were slightly different but not a massive issue. Everything seemed to be fine but airbag light is now on, thought  it would go off but it hasn't.

What's needed to resolve this?

You need a scan tool that can talk to the airbag module to turn the light off. If you have an airbag fault, fixing the fault does not turn the light off, you still need to use the tool. If the light will not turn off with the tool then you still have a fault that needs to be fixed.

Definitely no fault with airbags, both my car and the car I got the seats from didnt have the airbag light on before we swapped seats.

if I turn the airbag light off and it comes back on and I know the airbags have no faults then what? Just trying to pre-emptively think, is there any VCDS coding etc?

As above you won't know why until you get the airbag codes checked

Did you do the seat swap with the battery still connected? - if you did the car would be awake and actively monitoring its systems, it is likely to be a "cant see airbag" fault.

Airbags can be very sensitive to resistance, how did you adapt and overcome the difference in connector?

The very last resort is inserting a resistor into the connector to fool the system into thinking the airbag is still there - but this has obvious safety issues.

When the seats were swapped the battery was disconnected on both cars.

Don't wanna do anything that's compromises safety, I mean why fool the system? The airbag is actually still there.
