MK5 GTI clicking noise
« on: March 23, 2022, 05:41:12 pm »
Hi guys i have a 2005 GTI with a strange clicking noise coming from the front drivers wheel station. So about 3 months ago i replaced the driver side drive shaft due to a worn CV joint. I replaced it with a brand new (non genuine) part. Since then it was absolutely fine until a few days ago i noticed a clicking noise while driving. i noticed it seems to be there when going straight and gets worse the faster i go and if i turn left. Turning right seems to eliminate this. Ive checked the general area with the wheels off and the CV looks fine with next to no play, i also removed the dust shield as it was catching on the disc. Surely it cant be the CV again? any help would be much appreciated

Passenger side CV? Once one goes, it’s more than likely the other will soon after.
Did you have the driveshaft replaced at a garage? Best to check they haven’t left anything dangling…

Clicking noise from CV joints tend to make more noise on deceleration than acceleration though, and more prominent on full lock than straight. Could be the cam chain possibly.
Getting too old for this...
