MK5 GTI boost issue
« on: March 31, 2022, 01:03:17 pm »
So I bought an 06 GTI for very cheap expecting a few problems of course but I can figure this last one out if anyone can help.
I am getting past my budget now and the one biggest problem I still have is the feeling of my turbo kicking in and out. I have checked the dv valve, changed the PCV valve and coilpacks, put a new air intake in and I am almost sure it hasn't got a bad/cheap remap because it couldn't have over 200 break. Its the AXX engine code in case thats any help.
The boost kicking out is completely random, the car can be cold or warm, it can happen in the first few minutes of driving it or after an hour of driving it and in the middle of a journey it can stop working for 5 mins or half an hour and anything in between then just kick back in. When its gone it feels like a turbo delete almost and struggles to get past 3,000 rpm.
Only other issue with the car is when still and at idle the revs stay and 800 but the car has a very very slight judder you have to be sitting in it to feel it.
Obviously the last thing I want it to be is the turbo because the whole engine would have to come out, so I just wanted to see if anyone else has had something similar before I go have the turbo changed and it end up not being the issue either. Thanks

Turbo can be replaced with the engine in situ.

Before going down that road, get a scan tool on it and check for fault codes.
