On a manual car with a plain steering wheel at least, the memory button is on the wiper stalk, facing the floor.  You should be able to easily feel it.

You should find MPG 2 is lower than MPG 1 as it's the rolling average since the battery was last reconnected.  MPG 1 is on a per journey basis.

Since my diy internal engine steam clean my mpg has been inching up and not just around town.
I got an indicated 40.4 on a 40 mile run from Ampthill to Pinner three nights ago, admittedly mainly motorway and not exceeding 70mph and no hard acceleration either. Yes a very dull ride but interesting to see what's available when driving like Miss Daisy off boost with early chage ups as @Pudding mentioned.  I have no evidence to prove it but I strongly suspect it has been remapped at some point before I got it.

If you have VCDS, you can check the Flash count in the ECU information screen. If the car has had a dealer update, it will be 1.  If it's never been flashed/updated, it will be 0.  Most remapped cars will be 2 or more on the flash count.  Mine's on 13  :grin:
