Come home to VW
« on: April 05, 2010, 05:49:18 pm »
Hi

Just purchased a 2008 Gti Edition 30 having been away from VW for a while, and will never leave again. Due to my first child having arrived I went over to the dark side of a cheaper Ford Focus (yuk) and hated every driving mile, then my wife wanted a Rav4 and now just purchased a black edition 30 which Im hoping to collect on Thursday when the VW dealer has but some new rubber on the front alloys.

Unfortunately it has the standard head unit and I wonder if anyone has any advice as to how best to connect a bluetooth system to the car. I previously had a parrot kit fitted but read on a few posts about an integral bluetooth kit but my VW hasnt got the touch screen head unit or function steering wheel....any thoughts greatfully received.

Cheers

Parrot kit is your best bet, if you dont have Highline, multi function steering wheel nor Rns510 touchscreen.

Many thanks for your reply, will look at having a parrot kit fitted although just pricing up the VW Sat Nav and ariel system but looking about £700 at the moment.

Not picked it up yet and already looking at a new exhaust system 'blueflame' or similar, any suggestions?

Dont want to mod it too much as the edition 30 looks pretty good as it is and still hunting for an unmolested mk1 GTi, wishing I had kept mine from 1990 lol, it would be worth a fortune now.

Milltek for me would be my recommendation, but it all depends on how loud you want your aftermarket exhaust to be.

You want it loud under hard throttle, then blueflame is what you want. If you dont then look for something else.

I have the Skoda Bluetooth kit installed on mine, but i have Highline, Mfsw and Rns510 so that was the best option for me.

Cheers RNs 510 is looking like a definate option.

Just checked out the other exhaust systems and also look v nice, just thought of blueflame as I got one on the bike and it sounded awesome and a good bit of kit.

thanks again for your help

Steve

I put a Parrot kit (£65) + steering wheel interface (£50) plus wiring harness (£15) in my GTI the week I got it and was very happy at the time. Here I am about 7 months later and I have since fitted an RCD510 (£300) and OEM bluetooth (£170) and I'm much happier with it now. My advice is buy the OEM stuff now or you may regret it in the long run!

Saying that, either kit is good  :happy2:

Hi,  RCD510 doesn't have SatNav like you say but does have 6 CD (mp3) player built in instead.
I use mine to access my ipod but you need the MDI for this.

Cheers.

That sounds like what im looking for as dont really need Sat Nav as got the Tom Tom for that, but the bluetooth, 6 cd multi changer and ipod connection sounds very promising...Better get myself on Ebay me thinks or down to my local audio specialist and price it all up

Thanks again guys
