Bonnet Release Not Working
« on: April 03, 2022, 05:11:43 pm »
My bonnet release isn't working at the mo.. the inside handle now feels a little loose as well. It was working up until earlier today without issue.

I had the bumper off the day before yesterday swapping the radiator out, but I've had it opened a few times since then.

I know I can take off the VW emblem and use a pick to open the bonnet that way. I've heard that this can be caused by a stretch in the cable.. are they straightforward enough to swap out?

Thanks

Are you aware they are in 2 sections with a joint adjacent to the headlight? - it may have worked itself loose & separated during rad replacement.

Not done this on a Mk5 - but if you do replace, if possible use the old cable to pull the new one into place and take care of the grommet with the where it passes through the bulkhead, any damage and it may create point for water to enter the cabin.

Yep, very simple to swap in a new cable, did this last summer.
