anyone test driven a mk7 golf R
ald1717:
as above has anyone driven a mk7 golf r modded or stock?
thinking of a possible change when insurance is up in a couple of months but have yet to test one, im guessing with the same stage of tune it will be light years ahead in every way, but it would be nice to hear from someone that has driven one compared to their mk5

and have you also owned or driven a gti ? how do they compare
Sebas_theFish:
I've driven a stage 2 Mk5 and a stage 1 Mk7 Gti. Honestly, the stock R feels better than the Mk5 as I was pretty disappointed with the stage 2 Mk5 because it just felt slow.
The stage 1 Mk7 was more impressive it pulled hard and was more immediate in it's power delivery than the R and didn't have the sudden turbo surge like you get with the stock R.

Yeah driven a stock DSG one.
Likes: Build quality (compared to MK5, but not as good as equivalent Audi), variable ratio rack, refinement, ride comfort, brakes and midrange grunt.
Dislikes: Infotainment system, numb steering (less feedback than MK5), gearbox and cost cutting (plastic sump, 5 door only, limited choice of colours, pressed steel instead of alloy etc etc).
They can be improved upon, plenty of potential, especially with a Turbo Technics upgrade, but as standard I wasn't blown away. Might make a good project car when they drop into the £15Ks.
