boot opening issues

Boot when closed will not open using handle. But when open, the handle works fine - so it's not the usual culprit of the actuator. Any ideas? (wondering if I have inadvertently 'locked' it and it returns to the locked position when closed - but pressed the unlock button on door and still no good).

The usual culprit is the wires fracturing on the left hand side inside the rubber boot at the top of the hatch.

and..... it was
removed rubber boot, identified offending (brown) wire, resoldered a connection, insulating tape, all good. So when it's the lights in the lifting boot and the handle, try the wires first!
