Windscreen Replacement
« on: April 18, 2022, 05:02:03 pm »
Hi, I need to have my windscreen replaced.

Is there anything I need to check when getting one fitted?

I seem to recall someone on here as a problem with the rain sensor after getting a new windscreen.

Pete

When I had my Edition 30 screen replaced at Auto Windscreens the guy tested the rain sensor before I left with a spray bottle.

Only thing I'd say is make sure you have the correct tint as you have fitted too.

Hi Bobby - Since the Mk4, the screens have been a stressed part of the structure, so ask for an genuine VW one, infact give them your current PN.

I could recall reading about issues with screen replacement, for my own knowledge a quick search showed up:
Non-genuine screens creating issues with sensor needing re-calibration and fitment issues.
Sensor getting damaged on removal seems common.
A new gel pack required, but often gets fudged into place with old one.

Assuming you are going through insurance, other than a small premium they will say its free, but they will always sneak something onto your premium next renewal - so stick to the genuine VW parts request.

The last time I enquired about using a genuine screen, there was a hefty charge on top of the excess.

I've had the screen replaced 3 times in 8 years and Autoglass have been the best so far.

I had mine replaced by auto windscreens a couple of years ago. It was made by Saint Gobain who made the rest of the glass despite not asking for a genuine vw one. Luck of the draw I guess.
