Anti roll bar bushes ?

I’ve a small problem
I’m getting banging clunking sounds over potholes etc…….
Is it a garage job or is it easy to do at home ?
Roughly how much should a garage charge ? Uk

Also, a couple of small surface rust bubbles coming up on a wheel arch 🤔….
And the drivers side centre door black panel looking shabby, anyone know the part number to look for ?

clunking could be the drop links. Easy DIY. I replaced mine with VIKA ones  £30/pr
 Get a torch and prybar or screwdriver to check the state of the ARB bushes
Not a job for  beginners as the sub frame needs lowering and steering alignment doing. Sub frame bolts do snap if not treated with care
  Every single golf mk5 has arch rust   Sooner you rub it down and treat it the better. Removing the internal sponge under the arches will help once the rust is sorted That should keep you busy over the weekend

Clunking could be from lots of different places.

For ARB bushes, the rear is easy to do yourself provided you have tools. Amazon sells a kit for around £20. Front are part of the ARB and are hard work.

Unless it is obvious sometimes it makes more sense for a garage to find clunks. They can put the car on a four poster and pry in a way that is quite hard to do at home.

Drop links front and rear would be the first attack in my opinion.  You can drive with them disconnected and see if it still makes the noises or not.....not too fast 


I changed a lot of bushes prior to getting some bangs on bumpy roads and the car also felt twitchy over bumps.

In the end it was my rear trailing arm bushes, that I replaced with poly ones and not more bangs and twitchiness.
