Come across the Megane 3 RS front bbk recently. Heard a rumour that they're the same calipers as the TTRS/DB9 calipers but quite a bit cheaper!

By the time you get the calipers, adaptors, pagid discs and brembo pads from euro car parts you're looking at a total of 800 quid... that's new calipers as well! 2nd hand 1 pot and heavy golf R/R32 calipers will still cost you easy 500 quid if you get new discs and pads, and getting the db9 calipers as a kit from some VAG performsnce specialists comes in at £300 plus more at least.

The only thing I'm not sure of is the brake lines, maybe that cb auto kit supplies them I'm not sure but if it doesn't I'm sure they wouldn't be too hard to get hold of.

So have I come across and absolute bargain or missed a trick/to good to be true?

That is indeed a bargain!

I remember back in the day when the MK1 Leon Cupra R came with Brembos similar to those, and they were dirt cheap from the dealers for some bizarre reason.  Could be a similar thing with Renault?

I say go for it.  Maybe have a chat with CBauto about compatible brake lines?  If they sell the adapters, they must have some idea about that? If not, HEL will be able to knock up some custom ones for you, or make your own from a company like Speedflow.

The 345x30 discs will be the heavy bits though

Afaik… those are not quite the same as the ttrs and db9 calipers. The Meg rs3 uses 28mm front discs.

You would need to double check fitment. Maybe they work with the 30mm vag discs but not anything more exotic.

Good to know the consensus is I've not missed something obvious!

I may give it a stab later on in the year. Seems a no brainer for more braking power, less unsprung weight over the golf r/r32 setup for the sake of 300 odd quid.

TTS setup sounds interesting but yeah I imagine not to many come up for sale!

Those have a weak pad available choice. I'd recommend the Macan calipers. Both use the 340 mm OEM size discs from the 7 GTI PP/7R and are a direct fit.

Yeah the Macan calipers have been on my radar as well, one thing when reading cb autos description of the megane setup has made me think maybe suv calipers are actually not the best choice? Though I'm not quite understanding the "facts" here as to why. See what you make of this copied and pasted description:

The 18Z calipers with the smaller pistons (there are 3 variants) work well enough with 23,8 mm MC. The 17Z have bigger pistons, so they don't work as well.

The only doubt I have about the MRS3 calipers is their width. I know they use the same pads as the TTRS 4 pot calipers, so if they have the same width they can take 32 mm wide discs.
