probably better off with a k@n panel filter as they definately increase power albeit around 1% and they do a much better job of filtering, but they are double the price at around £50

I can see daylight through K&N filters, so I disagree they filter better.

I've used that PiperCross filter in the past, albeit the dry foam version, and can't say I noticed much.  Perhaps a shade more responsive at the top end, but it's the filter box that's the restriction, not the filter itself.

When I say daylight, I mean actual gaps in the cotton pleat. I have never seen huge gaps like that in the PiperCross foam.

I got rid of it because the rubber gasket doesn't seal as tightly in the housing as OEM, and correct, nothing filters better than stock.  Both foam and cotton let sh1t through into the turbo.

okay it was just in another thread you stated you got rid of the foam filter because you were unhappy with the amount of dust and dirt getting through?

Yep, although in hindsight I don't know how much of that dust came through the filter, or leaked past the poorly fitting gasket.  Either way, it's not good for turbos.  The force of the boost going into the cylinders is equal to the force of the air being sucked in, so grit hitting compressor wheels spinning at 100,000rpm can sandblast them over time.

Seem a popular small mod though.

I had one and after 18 months I decided to bin it and try the standard one. Imo noticed the pipercross made the car run really well. It was only after deciding what's best I went oem.

But spotted the aboce at £18 so putting it back on the car.

Noticed no excess dirt etc from the pipercross when removing it etc.

Most car mods under £100 are

It's your car, use what ever filter you like, just be wary of filters that cheap being fakes.  You don't want sofa foam from China getting sucked into the engine
