Flashing PRNDS cant wont start 2008 edition 30
« on: May 26, 2022, 01:32:21 pm »
Got the car out for a wash before mot the following day, not used it all winter its been sat with a battery tender on. So it started fine as usual so i washed and dried it took it round the block then parked it up. Next day i came to start it to drive to mot and it would not start. I am getting the flashing PRNDS and the fans turning full speed and engine turning over. The fuel pump primes when door opens  and no engine management light.
I have plugged a Autel scanner in and the codes i am getting are

U0100 $07E9 lost communication with ECM/PCM A
01314 Active/static Engine control module (ECM)-no signal/communication
18258 Active/static Databus drivetrain,Missing Message from engine CM-tbd

Any help would be much appreciated thanks
Ste

Check for water/humidity  on the ECU surrounds as it is under the windschield.

So basically your ECU can no longer talk to your TCU. Could be a simple electrical problem, could mean a new DSG box…

I don’t know enough about it I’m afraid, but they call it the ‘prindle’ fault. If you Google around there’s quite a bit of info. There’s a few threads on here about it, it’s not common, but it’s happened a few times.
Getting too old for this...

You may as well look at fuses for both DSG and engine control.
Next to the battery they should be: SB12 (DSG) and SB23 (engine). Some fuse location differs depending on build period or type of E-Box (High or Low). These are not likely to be relocated.

About 3 months ago I had had that error pop up during awkward 3 point turn on an uneven surface - I nearly sh@t myself!  It was has been fine after a ignition cycle.
My suspicion is it is either a microswitch in the shifter that is not happy or I was simply changing gear when the Golf was moving - wheel dropped off a kerb during the maneuver.

It's going to take some electrical diagnostic work to determine where it loses communication.

I have seen this once when a DSG gear selector board wasn't reporting which gear the shifter was in...but only the one time. Also, I cannot recall the fault codes associated with the one time...so this may not even pertain to your situation. This is where the circuit board is and the only way to replace is in doing so to the complete shifter assembly (as shown in this pic). You may try finding a used shifter, costing little...just to try. If you do this, you need to do so with care. As you can damage the current shifter when attempting to remove it. You wouldn't want to if there is nothing wrong with it.

Video shows how...I know it differs, but removing this style is done the same way. I recommend disconnecting the wires before pulling the shifter off...shown at 1m45s. Leaving the wire connected here is when it can be damaged, as the wire can break the board if left connected and you pull too hard;
