2010 mk6 GTI without service book
« on: June 02, 2022, 04:00:58 pm »
I’m looking at a mk6 GTI, 60 plate which has a full service history with no service book according to the dealer. He said it’s a digital printout for the first few services and the rest is made up of invoices. Is this normal?

Providing the recipes tally up and log the cars registration and mileage I don’t see the issue.

I’ve just never heard of a digital service log that’s all. But wary spending 12k on a car that doesn’t have a service book. Just wondering if that’s normal ha

Blimey, car prices are insane.  I'm sure a 2010 could be had for 8-9K a few years ago!

I think it’s more to do with the mk6 starting to appreciate in value as they’re pretty rare. Car prices seem to be calming down now.

Typical they appreciate when I want one   Didn't look twice at them a few years ago but they've grown on me.

£12K is MK7 GTD territory now, and indeed GTI, which might make more sense in the long term.  Just a shame they're a bit meh to look at and drive.

That’s what I started thinking, so I test drove a 7 GTD and hated it. Couldn’t afford a good mk7 GTI so got a 6. Paid £11k for a 5dr DSG with leather on 54k miles. Pretty happy tbh

Nice one. 54K explains the price then!  It's not a bad sum for the spec and mileage actually  :happy2:   I dunno, I just have a mental block about paying 5 figures for a car.  I've always paid 4 figures

Yeah the MK7 GTD is extremely boring. I was surprised by how gutless they are low down for a TDI!  Pull well at 3000rpm onwards, but what's the point of that? May as well get a TSI

Get some pics up

You can buy genuine service books on eBay, stamped with dealer (or like dealer) stamps. You just tell them what you want.

I would never falsify a history, but if you have invoices you can recreate a service book using that data. You could even tell buyers it was a duplicate. As a buyer, a replacement service book that was stamped up, with supporting invoices, would be fine for me.

I’d have definitely preferred to pay 4 figures but I wanted a really good one so had to push the boat out annoyingly. I’ll get some pics up when it’s back from the detailer, took it in today!
