Falken FK452's........Poor!!
« on: April 01, 2010, 11:16:57 pm »
Just chucked them on my car because I'm selling it it about a month and didn't fancy spending £130 per corner on my usual Goodyear Assymetrics.

You can REALLY tell that the Falkens are a £40-£50 cheaper tyre. Wet and dry roadholding is noticeably worse in comparison to the Goodyear!!

Exactly.

I presume WHITEGTI is talking about Goodyear Assymetrics? Which is about double the price.

I agree TBH. You cant expect them to perform the same as a tyre thats double the price!
I have had them on my fronts for a while now, and since I dont push the car hard very often at all, they have been great for me.

Oh of course, I never expected them to perform like the Goodyears - I thought that that was clear in my original post, obviously not haha!

Just didn't expect them to give up grip so easily thats all!

Just goes to show...that the extra premium paid on tyres does really make a difference.

Replaced the Continentals on the front with these, I like them. They warm up faster and give great feedback, grip is good too.

I don't give it the beans round the bends, so these suit my driving style, which is basically safe but foot down on the straights.

£170 fitted aswell.

Minimum rim protection though, but I am a good kerb dodger anyways.

I'm a massive f1 fan but feeling the pinch back in October at tyre time I bought some vredestein sessanta tyres on the strength of the Evo magazine review at £93 a corner fitted and they are equal to the f1's in most scenarios and better in others. My tyre of choice from now on!!

Giugiaro uses Vredestein Sessantas on all their concept cars. They've got some sort of tie-in with them... I think Ital Design designed the tread pattern.

Asymmetric tread patterns are the way forward. They really do provide improved abilities in the wet..  and dry. IMO.

When you consider that the only area of contact each tyre of your car has with the road surface is a small patch the same size as a CD, surely it's a mug's game not to get the very best you can afford. If you have a limited budget spend it on good tyres rather than another mod.

^^^^ Fully agreed with Robin.

However back to the OP.
I shoved some FK452s on my Black Detroits back last November. The car would be doing very minimal mileage over the winter and a few of the guys I know on other forums (trackday regulars too) really rate the Falkens.
The thing with the FK452s is that when they are brand new they really don't grip at all, they are hard and shiny (ooer Missus) and a bit slippy for a hundred miles or so. I was warned about this and took heed. After a couple of hundred miles they were really good tyres.
I'm currently on Pirelli P Zero Rossos as I changed wheels again last month, all I can say is that the car is about 10% less fuel efficient so far on the slightly wider (235 as opposed to 225) Pirellis!

<3 Pirelli P-Zero Rossos. I've had them on my car for years now (same 235 fitment as you Beezer). I didn't notice the difference in fuel economy when I got them!
