Front drivers side rattling
« on: June 23, 2022, 11:15:32 pm »
I've had this fairly loud knocking from the front right suspension area for about 8 years now.

Doesn't sound like the subframe below or the steering rack, drop links, control arm bushing look fine.

It is coming definitely coming from the wheel area.

Drop link looks fine:

Spring has a mark from hitting the nub:

Here I am moving push down on the wheel, hard to get any travel with the springs so firm:

Finally the video of the rattling whilst driving

Thanks!

I'd put money on it its the drop link(s). Mine went and sounded very much like that and when they were off the car they still looked and felt fine, but you can't really replicate the forces that travel through it when the car is jacked up or when the drop links are off the car so they can be deceiving. Take them off and take it for a drive and see if it cures the knocking.

I got a set years ago, aftermarket drop links though, unsure on the quality but I might as well fit them! Thanks

Absolutely that  :happy2:  Checking chassis components for wear is pretty difficult when unloaded.

The Lemforder brand in the aftermarket are exactly the same as the VW ones, but half the price.
