Golf mk5 Axx GTI overheating
« on: September 15, 2022, 11:12:22 am »
Hi guys!
I have bought this car around 3 weeks ago and apparently had timing chain and w/pump done.
Yesterday I was driving it around 50 miles  an hour but forced twice in roundabout as was busy and tried to get in faster.
Then the car started overheating, I have turned the heating on at max power and highest temp and cooled down.
What can be?
Thank you in advance

The pump is the main power to circulate, unless you have a stuck closed thermostat preventing the flow of coolant.

Remove the coolant expansion cap (when cold obviously!) and run the engine.  You're looking for a steady stream of coolant flowing into the tank from the upper return hose, which will indicate coolant is flowing around the engine.  If that isn't happening, it could be the pump as above, an air lock, stuck thermostat etc.  Pretty unusual issue on these engines to be fair, they normally over cool when the stat sticks open.
