Scanner not communicating with car?

Hi all
I've recently fitted the mk6 climate control unit to my eddy.  All works apart from keeping the memory (pin 16 and 20 swap) which I didn't bother doing.
However... while fitting,  I unplugged the airbag sensor and the light is now on.
Gave the car to mechanic today to fit my new shocks and springs and asked him to clear the airbag light..   he's just returned the car and said that he's scanner is not communicating with my car, he also tried it on next door garages vag com with same issue.
Could it be the mk6 climate control unit stopping the communicating??

Any ideas chaps?

just to close this chapter..   

after fitting the mk6 climate unit to my eddy,  i asked the garage to clear my airbag light.    he said both he's and next door garages scanner wouldnt communicate with my car!! 

so i took it to a friend who tried with he's scanner and it worked ?

Have the same issue, both OBD11 and a garage scanner wouldn't read the error codes yet they both work on other cars  Tried Carista and it worked so idk whats going on with it, will get VCDS and see if that works.
