I thought it might be, unfortunately I wouldn't be comfortable doing that myself haha. Will have to see how much a gearbox specialist will charge, may even look into getting a replacement gearbox. Thanks for your help!

I've heard these mentioned before and seem to have a good reputation. https://milta.co/mobile-first-automatic-repair-gearbox-prices/?gclid=CjwKCAiA2rOeBhAsEiwA2Pl7Q_4kZwOL6KYlu5iEaQnUUMNbDCT_tqLjwohGWDKbBDjTB_Igk1bCHRoCxbkQAvD_BwESadly think mine will need doing at some point as i've experienced similar symptoms to you after a long journey. Good to know it might just be the mechatronic i suppose but still a fair old chunk of cash. Dsg services on mine done late at 50k miles & 100k miles (now on 120k).

Bit annoyed that mine is failing tbh as the first dsg service was done at 40k then around 75k and got one done recently at 109k but I know it's a common issue. Hope u get urs sorted!
Most garages will only do both mechatronics & clutch packs in fear they pick the wrong issue. (It covers there back) I can assure you the mechatronics is your issue. About £350 in parts by the time you factor in the 2 x solenoids, gaskets and DSG Oil & filter. But I understand your situation you can’t do it yourself. Just a lot to spend on 14+ year old car. (In my opinion)
Thanks for the responses guys. I'll speak to the garage and see if they can do the solenoids and not the clutch packs. £2k is more than I was expecting for the fix I'd rather not replace the parts that don't actually need replacing yet. Tbh I don't drive it long distances too often so I'm not experiencing the issues everytime I drive but I do want to sort them, I've already spent a fair amount on general maintenance and a few mods over the past year. Not had any other major issues with it apart from this one 🤞 been kept well and serviced every year by the pervious owner, I'm only the 2nd to own the car. I'll give those people a call too and see what they advise. Will update this until I get the issue sorted!
