Need new sills
« on: January 27, 2023, 05:14:59 pm »
Just having a poke and prod about before MOT on Monday and my sills are looking decidedly secondhand and a decent dig with a screwdriver could see a hole in them. Called the stealer £225 + vat each side for the parts. They can shove that, there’s a decent panel supplier close to me that can do £65 a side. I’d do them myself but got nowhere indoors to do them. Question is then, anyone had it done recently and what did you pay?

That’s about the price I can get quality panels for, and if the weather was better I could weld and paint them myself,  if I do t have anywhere indoors to do it hence asking how much others have paid as I’ll need to get it done professionally.

In my country, Romania, it's around 80 EUR  for the sills brand new and another 250 EUR for professional shop to cut/weld/install/paint. I had them done on my TDI, now I need to do the same thing on the ED30 :sad1: + front fenders, hood, front bumper with new lip. Gonna be quite a bill.

Having the whole car resprayed by them with the sills and everything done would cost me ~1450 EUR but I think I'm just gonna do the front end as the rest is pretty clean. These are "friend" prices btw, other garages charge way more, as a random walkin.

So as expected, failed the mot on sills on both sides. Had a quote from a local body shop whose work I know is always top notch but pricey as a result, came in just under a grand for both sides, unpainted. Painting adds another couple hundred quid is if I get it done will paint myself. I am seriously considering having a go myself, been a good 20 years since I wielded a torch so I’m a bit out of practice. Anyone done it and knows of the pitfalls?
