airbag warning light
« on: April 04, 2010, 01:21:07 pm »
Just a quick post to share an interesting experience. I was changing the stereo and powered the car up with the dashboard trim and stereo removed to check new wiring before reassembling - doh, got the airbag warning light as the passenger airbag deactivated light was disconnected. Oh i thought, will need agcom to reset, tried the disconnect the battery for 10 mins trick all to no avail, airbag warning light stayed on. I have been really busy over last three weeks so no time to find a vagcom user, and lo and hebold after ~ 2 weeks and approx 1000 miles I noticed the warning light had gone off and stayed off, it has mysteriously reset itself - Yipee

So if you make a basic beginers mistkae like me, just drive around for a couple of weeks and with luck it will reset itself.

(I did upload a SC stage 2 map during this time but can't believe this would make any difference?)

Hope this experience works for others

Cheers

John

Why did you need to disconnect the light?

Provides easier access to the panels with the whole thing out of the way.

spot nasir, have not disconnected it in the past, but is easier to take the whole panel off and get it out the way. At least it was until I powered back up to check the radio worked with all the panels off doh........ next time I will just keep the battery disconnected until all safely back together.

TBH I've removed and refitted my RNS at least three times and never did I have any issues with the passenger airbag light wiring.

I did this whilst checking out my headunit to see if the wiring harness had been cut, luckily it had'nt so when it came to fitting the new headunit i worked around due to not wanting to get the light turned off again.

you only get the airbag light if you turn the ignition on with a component disconnected in the airbag system, it is very sensitive to changed resistances and throws a warning light which usually stays on and can only go out with a vagcom or equivalent to reset it. It reads the changed resistance as a fault. the strange thing in this instance is that it reset itself.

I know, I know all about it and still made a noob error of turning on the ignition with a component disconnected!!

I did this last night!! What a donut, you think I would have learnt from when I did the same with the steering wheel one.

Will try driving around for a few weeks, unless someone in the Croydon or Oxted area has a VagCom, 10 mins and fancies a beer!!
