Tapping noise on Idle
« on: May 13, 2023, 10:11:37 pm »
Hi all,

Have a 2008 Gti with the random tapping noise on idle.  Had the fuel lines wrapped in foam as advised by the forum but it’s still happening.  Randomly a cluster fault appeared on the reader then went away without erasing.  So now I’m thinking it could be the cluster itself at fault.  Any suggestions would be good.  Thanks

The injectors are nosiy on these but sometimes I get a tapping noise that sound alike it's behind the dash. Theory is it's a solonoid just not quite turning off but no running issues or any other symptoms and been like that for about 4 years now so

Have this too on an 05 GTI, sometimes at idle and sometimes while driving. Comes and goes

Try turning the fans off and on and see if this affects the tapping sound. I remember reading this was the fan flap solenoid or something getting stuck.

My Octavia used to have it but it seems to have fixed itself

Could you try to record a video of it happening and post it here?

If engine, try a can of Liqui Moly 5153 in the fuel tank. It tends to make engines run smoother. Even an oil change if it hasn’t been changed in a while. If it’s running a 30 weight oil, a 40 will quieten it down.
