Phase position 2.0 TFSI

Hello everyone on my gti it shows +4 KW is that normal?

What is the cause that it shows positive

negative means that the chain is stretched, right? but I haven't read anything about positive values  :thinking:

All I've ever seen regarding a positive phase position was due to these:
1) Issues with the timing belt alignment from crank to exhaust cam. Seen a post of a belt being one tooth off and a +13°KW phase position. So, not sure if +4°KW would be caused by this.
2) Clogging within or to the cam adjuster, low oil pressure, or improper oil flow through the VVT system. Was the belt or chain done recently?

Hi Yes, I changed the chain with tensioner a few months ago but I'm sure everything is correct

Was then in the workshop they checked it again thoroughly and everything was right with the chain

I believe it isn't due to the new chain and tensioner.
As I said...more likely to be the timing belt or oil flow through the VVT system. But I would also confirm the timing belt alignment is spot on.
 
When the chain and tensioner were done, they may not have cleaned the N205 pickup screen. They may not have inspected the three oil control rings...or they damaged a ring when reinstalling the cam adjuster/chain cover. Because those three rings go into the center-bore of the cam adjuster. If the first ring catches on an edge, and is forced a bit, the ring can break.

This is a broken ring and the other is the location for the N205 oil pickup screen;
 


One more thing; if your MK5 is older, those came with metal rings...not plastic/nylon or whatever they be. And the metal rings would groove the center-bore of the cam adjuster like this and eventually lose oil there;

hi i have replaced the rings

the vehicle is from 2007 old rings were made of nylon bought from Elring 3 and replaced and this sieve is correct I didn't actually clean it can you buy it separately?

I've not seen it sold separate from the cover.
I replaced the cover 4 or 5 yrs ago. The new cover came with its own screen/filter.

+4 KW is fine. Minus or plus that amount is within tolerance specs.  On the R32 engine, the tolerance is +/- 8KW!
 
You normally see +/- 3KW after a chain job, so I wouldn't be concerned by +4.  To achieve the ideal 0KW, you would need to replace the intake cam sprocket as well, which obviously no one does. The VVT variator compensates for slight timing angle discrepancies, so I wouldn't worry about it.  1KW drift would make a difference on a diesel engine, but on a gas engine, it's fine.

Yes, I did not change the camshaft adjuster.
It was made new 50,000km ago, so I left it the vvt is new because the plug was broken from my old one .

The chain was only exchanged because the tensioner was no longer the best it didn't lengthen, so i couldn't find anything serious about the old chain

So you mean just leave it and drive? In the beginning it is 3KW after a longer drive 200km I get to 4KW more but also not so 4kw is max .

What disadvantages can a positive value have?

Yes that is normal and fine to drive. The engine oil thins out on longer journeys which is why it moves from 3 to 4KW.

1KW really is nothing to be concerned about.

When the engine is at TDC, there is a valve 'dwell' angle where they static for a period as the piston changes direction.  4KW is well within that dwell period, so all is good, nothing to worry about  :happy2:
