GTI - Oil on front bumper - where from?
« on: May 17, 2023, 03:56:46 pm »
Hello,

After finishing work the other day I noticed a stain on front of my bumper. I swiped a bit on my finger and it’s definitely oil. I’ve checked under the bonnet and cannot see any oil dripping. The only thing I can think of is the lower hoses could be leaking? Anyone seen similar to point me in right direction. Thanks

Have you checked the oil cooler/heat exchanger? I know that's in the middle of then bumper but could have run depending on cornering.

Pop the near side intercooler hose off.

Whip the bumper off and check the back of it for where the oil first landed on it.

I would say a weeping intercooler hose or the oil filter housing are likely suspects.

Got under the car today… took the under tray off and checked for oil leaks.

Noticed the intercooler pipe looked very oily. I assume this is my issue?

I noticed my PCV pipe was wet in oil….the longer one the pipe itself is oily. (I cannot see anywhere else this could come from)

And finally this pipe is cracked (brake vacuum hose) can this lead to any faults?

I also noticed whilst under the car the xenon sensor was hanging off… so I bolted it back to where I think is correct?
