If the EML is showing on the dash you'll fail.

No. MOTs don't scan ECUs for stored codes.

But Airbag, ABS and EML lights = instant fail.

EML only comes on for emissions related faults. It doesn't give a sheet if the engine is running sub optimally. It only cares about shoving unburned fuel into the atmosphere, and broken cats.
