I'm planning on doing a couple of jobs on the car in a couple of weeks time:

  • Inlet Valve Carbon Clean
  • Thermostat Replacement

I'm thinking of doing them at the same time as it should give me more space, as by the looks of it I'll have the inlet manifold, throttle body, and alternator off.

Is there anything else worth replacing while I'm in there?

A few things I've noted that might be worth replacing at the same time are:

  • Manifold Gasket
  • Injector Seals
  • Alternator Clutch Pulley
  • Serpentine Belt

Have I missed anything?

Also, is Erling the OEM brand for things like gaskets and seals?

You might consider replacing the oil filter assembly. It comes with new seals for both the filter assembly-to-block and the oil cooler-to-filter assembly. Or you can just replace the two seals. You may also think about replacing the FPRV (pressure limiting valve) and the G247 (fuel high pressure sensor on the rail). All that's left under there really, and can be difficult to get at later, is the knock sensors; but those are your choice.

Hi,

I done the same a few months ago, only thing I would look out for that you didn't mention is possibly replacing the long pcv pipe. You might not have to but when I was removing the manifold mine snapped as the pipes get really brittle and can't bend that much.

Check the condition of your injectors mine were pretty gunked up with all the carbon build up, might be worth while getting them tested and serviced as the k03 injectors are pricey to replace if one fails.

To avoid delays and stuff not sealing properly I went to VW for all of the seals, wasn't too expensive for them either.

Could check the serpentine belt tensioner, see if the pulley still spins smoothly.

Maybe also check the dipstick funnel and replace that if it's cracked. Part number is 06F103663H
