MK5 armrest retrofit
« on: April 05, 2010, 04:18:22 pm »
Hi all,

First post here so be gentle!

Just picked up a Golf GTI 55 plate with leathers. Really happy with the car but feel it could do with a centre armrest to complete the interior. Came across thisone me across this one on ebay and wondered if anyone had any experience of fitting it, pictures etc. Does the leather match up well?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Genuine-VW-Gol...item518d3252e0

On a side note I saw a link to a fitting guide here in the 'how to' section but the link seemed dead?!

The car has the front loading 6 disc stereo in case that is of relevance.

Many Thanks!

if yours was like mine with just a cup holder, its very easy,3 screws hold that in place, the armrest requires about 6 screws to put in,hardest part was sliding it over handbrake, took less than hour

Any pics of it fitted? Sounds easy enough, I'll post a pic of what mine is currently like too when I get the chance. Do you have leathers too? good match??

Cheers!

Your link isn't working but don't go for those aftermarket bits, get the OEM from a scrappers or buy it from VW. You'll definitely get perfect colour match then.

they are regularly on e bay for about £100, for leather or for cloth, they seem to go for the same price.

Thanks.

Looks like a great job there, just need to know that the leather version looks like now. I think its a VW part which is why it is up for £200 on ebay.
Also wanted to ask, I have the 6 disc front loading stereo in mine - would I be able to get something that would allow me to play media through a USB like in your pic??

Cheers.

Hi Charlie,  I dont have any pictures I can post up, but I have anthracite cloth arm-rest with anthracite leather in my car and teh colour match is really rather good, I intend to replace it with leather at some-point but the colour match is so good that I havent got myself motivated to find a new cover or top panel yet.

Hi all,
One further question after looking at the pics above. Would I need to change the part of the console that is in front of the handbrake. I have cupholders there at the moment but the pics above show the sliding cover. I take it I could leave that part as it is in my car (with cupholders)

Yeah you can leave cup holder as it, the roll top is just a different version.  As can be seen in PMoky's its two seperate parts, so just remove the rear half, and fit the armrest, dont think you need to touch the front section.

Looking for some info....

The picture above shows the centre console with the sliding tray instead of the console with the cup holders. I have no armrest and the cupholder front console. Does anybody have the part number for both a leather armrest with USB-IPOD kit (not multi CD) and also the centre console with the sliding tray.

I presume these are relativley straight forward to fit, I have read that the only real problem is the a/c ducting which I dont think i'll bother with as I'm never in the back anyway. If anybody has prices of the above that would be great.

Thanks
