Front drivers window packed up
« on: August 28, 2023, 09:49:42 am »
Morning all, my front drivers side window packed up yesterday. It makes quite a bit of noise when the switch is pressed but no movement whatsoever, just stuck.

Anyone advise what i should be looking for when i remove the door card? Is there a chance its just come off the rails? Cheers

Possible snapped cable  Door skin removal Take note of the skin screws as they are different, will need replacing exactly
Plenty of good guides "Y" shaped crash bar does NOT have to be removed Grease cable when fitted :happy2:
Dont be tempted to buy cable only

Hi thanks for the advice. Sorry to sound thick but when you say don't just buy the cable what else are you referring to?

Follow this guide then you can focus on the window regulator once the door skin is off.

You won't see anything taking the interior door card off other than a speaker :)

I've done this job more than once on a few VW's and Audi's and I'd advise buying the entire regulator as an unit (already built up) they're cheap enough and it makes the job ten times easier than having to fiddle about with the cables and new clips etc.

Loads of youtube videos showing how to do the job. It's pretty straightforward. The regulator is bolted behind the inner door panel, you'll need to take the door card and the inner panel off to access it.

Yep get the entire regulator and for the love of god, don't cheap out on it otherwise you'll be back in there again 12 months later.  Get OEM, or Valeo or whoever makes it, from AutoDoc bare minimum.

My Scirocco one went last winter, It's not a like a mk5 where you take the door skin off, I faffed about with it in -2 degrees, decided F*** it and took it to the local main dealer.

£400 later it was fixed.  :scared: :jumping:

Yikes! Reminds me of the time I couldn't be bothered to change the rear calipers on my ED30 myself and dumped it off at the dealer.  £800

£117 for a diagnostic scan  :surprised:

BMW only charge £26 for that  What's going on in the world where VWs cost more than Bimmers to maintain??!

Not a scan no, more of a "yeah thats f*cked" as they looked inside the door (I'd already taken the door trim off)
