Stage 2+. Need a cat converter, advice please
blingsta:
Hi all.
My eddy is stage 2+ and my MOT tester has been good for the past few years and passing her. But I have now been told that it will be the last pass without a cat.
Anyone else with stage 2+ that has a cat fitted?
Looking for advice on what's best? 100 cell or 200 cell?
Will it hamper performance much?
Jons1001:
I've got a stage '2' (270bhp ish) standard MK5 that had a decat downpipe when i bought it. I had a 200cel magnaflow cat welded in and can't say i noticed any difference in performance.
I had mixed opinions on whether the car needed the map tweaking to suit the addition of the cat, the company that did the map insisted it was required (of course they would).
All in all it was a bit of a hassle getting the cat fitted etc. and also the extra cost.
I'd try and find a new mot tester who likes £20 notes.

:signLOL: I actually called R-tech and asked if the map would need tweaking and to my surprise they said No ??
So it's just a case of buying a cat and welding it on ? I might ask if they can do it in such a way where I can clamp the cat on for MOT and then clamp the catless pipe back on after the test?
Can that be done?

Why would you need a sports cat to be removable?
My advice is get a good 200 cell cat from somewhere like BCS or Milltek and be done with it. No messing around after that, just fit and forget.
Just be aware that none of the aftermarket cats last as long as the factory ones. It’s one of the things that I would never buy second hand.

Thank.you
