Edition 30 unbearable burning oil smell
« on: September 24, 2023, 03:50:17 pm »
Hi all, new to the forum
Tried the search function first but all i seem to come across is fuel smell in oil

Anyway, i bought an ed30 at 140k, seller stated it was stage 2 but no proof, it drives great and definitely feels really quick

It has no cat, milltek, and the pcv has a blanking plate

One thing really bugging me is the burning oil, fumes, (no smoke from exhaust)
Its noticeable even when driving at around 10 mph and unbearable at idle so i think its coming through the vents but i can also smell it from the exhuast when my gf is driving off in the morning

I first hope it was the valve cover must be leaking onto manifold/exhuast, hence the smell in cab but ive checked it and no leaks

What would be the best things to check before i put it into a garage

That is the smell you get from binning off the cats.

Get rid of the PCV blank and refit the OEM parts.

An engine can burn oil and stink but not visibly smoke from the exhaust (ask Audi longitudinal low tension piston ring TFSI owners, lol). How much oil is it getting through over 1000 miles?
