Clicking ticking noise from dash - Steering wheel area
« on: October 09, 2023, 09:02:21 pm »
As above, got a very annoying ticking/clicking noise that seems to be coming from the dash behind the steering wheel. Been going a fair few weeks now and at first it was for the first 10-15 seconds after start up but now seems to go on for ages.

Any ideas? I've read online it could be something to do with the ventilation fan, anyone know how/what/where to check? Cheers

Most likely the motors for the ventilation. You can use VAGCOM to scan for codes. VAGCOM can also let you live test each motor individually on the vents to find any faults.

What Greig said 95%. Turns your fans off and on, change the fan blower mode between body, feet, demister etc. See if any of those cause or stop the clicking.

Mine used to do it but somehow stopped on it own after a year of owning the car.

But I said 95%, because a few months ago I got an (inconsistent) clicking from behind the passenger side of the dash when the engine was warm. Turned out to be the cam chain/tensioner showing early warning signs so I got it changed and the sound went away. Of course if you're worried about that it can be easily checked with VCDS by looking at Block 91 and 93 in Advanced Measure Values in the Engine menu.
