HELP! Cold start struggle
« on: November 03, 2021, 12:19:09 pm »
Iv owned my mk5 gti for just over a year now. It struggles to start when the cars been sat overnight, basically coughs, splutters' into life if that makes sense. Usually worse when its cold. Once the cars started its totally fine and cant seem to find the issue. the first time i start car after its sat it will cough into life, but if i turn it off and start it back up it fires up straight away.
Scanned yesterday for codes and came back with the below

P0441 EVAP Emission Contr. Sys, Incorrect: purge Flow
P0299 Turbo/Super charge underboost

Iv been told the N80 valve is the cause of my cold start issue but want to get some advice first from the mk5 gurus before throwing more money at it.

Fuel filter has been changed, plugs, new turbo. Full service been done, have tried wynns petrol gold treatment, new bosch battery last year.

MK5 GOLF GTI 2007 DSG - BWA ENGINE - 140K MILES

Edit: gone back to car today to scan for codes, and the above have disappeared and now showing 0 fault codes

Once cleared, the P0441 fault will stay away for weeks before returning.
I had that issue for a while, but I don't recall any problems starting whilst it was there.
Its either the valve or the carbon filter/canister - if you replace one, its likely to be the other one thats still broke!

Genuine parts prices are nuts - I went aftermarket £30 to £40 for a genuine Bosch valve and the carbon filter £15 to £20 from China, this had the VW PN ground off, suspect it was an OEM VW part for the Chinese market.

Has anyone checked your in-tank pump is working properly?
